Lingo ("we", "us", "our") is a WhatsApp translation service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Lingo via WhatsApp.

2. Information We Collect

When you use Lingo, we collect:

• Your WhatsApp phone number — to identify you and route translations
• Your display name — as shared by WhatsApp, to personalize messages
• Message content — only messages you send to Lingo or that Lingo is asked to translate. We do NOT read your private conversations unless you explicitly forward them to us.
• Language preferences — your chosen language and translation mode
• Usage data — how many translations you've used today (for plan limits)
• Payment information — email and payment reference for subscriptions (we do NOT store card details — Paystack and Stripe handle that)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

• Provide and improve the Lingo translation service
• Remember your language and mode preferences
• Enforce daily translation limits based on your plan
• Process subscription payments
• Diagnose errors and improve service reliability

We do not use your messages for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond translation.

4. Message Content & Translation

Messages you send to Lingo or ask Lingo to translate are:

• Sent to Google Translate API for translation processing
• Temporarily cached (up to 2 hours) to support reply-translation and emoji triggers
• Stored in translation history for up to 90 days so you can review past translations
• Never shared with third parties beyond the translation provider

Lingo does NOT read, access, or store messages in groups where Lingo has not been explicitly added as a participant.

5. Third-Party Services

Lingo uses the following third-party services:

• Meta (WhatsApp Cloud API) — to send and receive WhatsApp messages. Meta Privacy Policy →

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a secured MySQL database on servers with:

• Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS for all data in transit)
• Access restricted to authorized personnel only
• Regular backups with encrypted storage

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Usage logs are deleted after 90 days. Message context is automatically deleted after 2 hours.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Delete — request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Correct — request correction of any inaccurate information
• Opt out — stop using Lingo at any time; message the bot with /delete

To exercise any of these rights, email official lingo or message Lingo with /delete.

8. Children's Privacy

Lingo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.

9. International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own (including the USA, where Google and Meta servers are located). By using Lingo, you consent to this transfer, which is conducted under appropriate safeguards.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of Lingo after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
